Running

A Summer of Running
2012

Guy and I ran the New Harmony Mud Run in June. I got 2nd place in the 10K. The evil sand sections slowed me down. Guy competed in the Kids Run and did an excellent job. He never stopped and plunged right into the cold, muddy water.

On July 4th I ran with members of the St. George Running Club in their annual 17-mile trial run. It was so nice. Afterwards I sat in a stream to cool off.

On the 24th of July I participated in a 5k and had a PR of 23:03. I am lucky to have lots of cute friends to run with that really push me to run faster.

Jack and I both trained for the St. George Marathon and were able to go on a few training runs with the babysitting help of our friend Angela Jessop. In this picture we ran 18 miles from Veyo to St. George with my friend Brooke Todd who is behind the camera.

All summer I did speed work with the St. George Running Club and I think that really helped me.

Race day!

I had a really great race. I didn't run with anyone, but saw people along the way. I finally figured out my hydration and nutrition for this marathon. My time was a 3:50. Last year I ran this race in 4:35, so this was a big PR.

This was Jack's first marathon and he got a 4:02! Kevin Jessop ran with his brother Jeremy (in the pic below). This was Kevin's 10th time running this marathon and Jeremy's first. Jeremy just moved here from Memphis, TN and Jack was so happy to have his best friend to train with.

I am already looking forward to my next race.

Preschool Trip

Joy School Field Trip

Sloan participates in Joy School and we went to Staheli Farm for our fall field trip. Sloan invited one of her best friends, Evelyn Jessop.

The kids got to see and pet the farm animals. We even saw a half turkey and chicken bird.

Then we went on a tractor ride out to the pumpkin patch to learn about pumpkins.

Guy is in afternoon kindergarten, so he was able to attend. He embraced his country side.
We love Staheli Farm! We come here every fall and will probably come again as a family closer to Halloween.

Activities

What are we up to?

Now that Guy is in school we have been working on more homework and art projects. Then, magically a chunk of Sloan's hair went missing! No one seems to know how this happened, but all cutting activities are better supervised now.

Guy is taking gymnastics. He likes his coach.

Guy begged me to get a new blender so we could finally have healthy smoothies again.

Jack's good friend Jeremy Jessop's mother passed away. We traveled north for her funeral and had an opportunity to see a lot of Jack's friends from high school and college.

Jack borrowed a bike with a child-size tandem attachment. He and Guy went mountain biking together on Prospector Trial near out house. They said they were going very fast.

I got a new road bike though this isn't the best picture. It is much lighter and a little smaller than my Raliegh was. I really like the gearing and the handlebars. Now I just need to work on swimming so I can enter a triathlon.

We have enjoyed having our friends the Jessops live close by. We went camping and hiking with them in Snow Canyon State Park.

Kindergarten

Guy Starts Kindergarten
Guy already graduated from his preschool at the community center. This summer he also graduated from the Rusty and Rosy on-line preschool program offered through the Waterford Institute. He really learned a lot from this program and I think his participation is the reason why he is already a good reader. He even scored at a second grade level for vocabulary.

Now he is in Kindergarten!

1st Day of Kindergarten
Guy attends afternoon (half day) kindergarten at Coral Canyon Elementary which is less than a quarter mile from our house. His teacher is Mrs. White who is great, but he still says recess is his favorite part of school. Typical kid.

Sloan started Joy School. Some friends and I take turns hosting school at our houses. She likes having her own school experience and she is good at tracing her letters.

Summer Fun

Summer 2012

The kids learned how to swim. Sloan is very good at treading water.

Sloan learned to ride a pedal bike. Jack and I trained for the St. George Marathon. Below is a pic of me on a run near our house. You might be able to see my new nose piercing.

The kids got their faces painted on the 24th of July in Hurricane, UT. Guy wanted a scar with blood and Sloan wanted flowers. I ran my fastest 5k that morning 23:03!

We attended my Dad and Debbie's family reunion in Fort Collins, CO. My brother Brian and his family were unable to attend, but below is everyone else.

Here are all of Dad and Debbie's kids and spouses.

Here are all of Debbie's kids.

And all of the grandkids minus Sloan who was throwing a fit.

Debbie and Dad

My brother Dennis and his wife Kaelynn.

My sister Charlotte and her cute family.

My sister Jessica and her husband Chad.

We stayed in a very nice cabin and enjoyed eating smores, playing games, and paddling around the pond.

My brother Dennis and his wife Kaelyn rented these fun carts to race around the campground.

Southern CA

Family Trip to Southern California
Legoland
This is Guy's dream come true!

Sloan found a princess, even at Legoland.

Sloan isn't a good driver. Let's hope this isn't foreshadowing.
Who gave Guy a license to drive?
Guy has his Legos and Sloan is asleep. It was lots of fun!

Sea World
Guy's favorite show was the sealions.
Sharks!

 Elmo Ride
Whales
Killer Whale Show: We are sitting further back after getting soaked at the dolphin show. Sloan was not happy to be wet.

San Diego Beach

The temperature was a little cool, but we had to take the kids to see the ocean for the first time.
